Dave
- Racing ( Dave No. 180 In Pictures Shown On
The Left )
In
1996 after watching a friend race at Cadwell Park decided
to give it a go. Valentines day 1997 was spent fetching
a boot full of boxes which had once been a racing Triumph
6T. However, after an accident and a few years storage
much work was needed before it was to see the race track
again. In September that year at a very different race
track, 3 Sisters near Wigan, it made its debut. Dave
was delighted to finish fourth. Continued to race and
develop the bike, (including a five speed gearbox) for
3 years before selling the bike to Ben Graham who took
in to 2nd place in the Champion of Champions series
with the VMCC in 2005 (Well done Ben).
In
2000 Dave built a wideline featherbed Norton with a
750 Atlass engine from scratch, making many of the plates
and one off parts himself. This chassis was later to
house one of Norvil Motorcycles development 920CC engines.
He is still racing this bike at present with the latest
project being a conversion to a 5 speed gearbox and
carburetion improvements. Dave has had victories on
the bike – the first being at Anglesey race circuit
and has probably been one of the most consistent finishers
with one of the most reliable bikes in the paddock.
In
2007 he sponsored the Solo Champion of Champions
races with the Vintage club (British Historic Racing),
the winner of which will carry the No 1 plate the next
season. In these races the top3 finishers in all race
classes race against each other in a handicap race,
this means a pre 1934 250cc bike can race against a
1972 920cc Commando and still produce a close finish.
